Definities

Allergie
Er is sprake van allergie wanneer iemand zowel allergeen specifieke antistoffen ofwel Immunoglobuline E heeft (gesensibiliseerd is) als objectieve allergische symptomen vertoont na blootstelling aan het betreffende allergeen.
Atopische aanleg
De erfelijke aanleg voor het krijgen van astma, hooikoorts en constitutioneel eczeem.
Sensibilisatie
Het aanmaken van allergeen specifieke antistoffen (Immunoglobuline E, IgE).
Standaardisatie
Het vergelijkbaar maken van cijfers (bijvoorbeeld sterftecijfers) die betrekking hebben op verschillende jaren of populaties, door rekening te houden met verschillen in bijvoorbeeld leeftijdsverdeling. Een veel gebruikte methode is zogenaamde 'directe standaardisatie', die de leeftijdsspecifieke cijfers van een populatie (de 'indexpopulatie') toepast op de leeftijdsverdeling van een gekozen 'standaardpopulatie'.
