Vragenlijst voor het meten van kwaliteit van leven. Het instrument bestaat uit 8 dimensies: fysiek functioneren, rolbeperkingen door fysieke gezondheidsproblemen, pijn, algemene gezondheidsbeleving, vitaliteit, sociaal functioneren, rolbeperkingen door emotionele problemen, en geestelijke gezondheid. Deze 8 dimensies kunnen bovendien gesommeerd worden in een lichamelijke en een psychische hoofddimensie

Definities

Atherosclerose
Een vernauwing van de slagaders als gevolg van plaquevorming en trombusvorming. Een plaque is een verdikking van de bloedvatwand, bestaande uit een brij van witte-bloedcellen, gladde spiercellen, bloedplaatjes, bindweefsel, calcium (kalk) en vetten zoals cholesterol. Bij beschadiging van de plaque kunnen bloedplaatjes aanhechten en kunnen stolsels ontstaan (trombi). Deze kunnen het bloedvat ter plekke afsluiten. De gevolgen van deze bloedvatvernauwing (herseninfarct, hartinfarct, angina pectoris, perifeer vaatlijden) worden ook vaak tot het begrip atherosclerose gerekend.
Prevalentie
Het aantal gevallen of personen met een bepaalde ziekte op een bepaald moment (punt-prevalentie) of in een bepaalde periode, bijvoorbeeld per jaar (periode-prevalentie), absoluut of relatief.
Primaire doodsoorzaak
De ziekte of de gebeurtenis waarmee de aaneenschakeling van gebeurtenissen die tot de dood leidde, startte. Men spreekt hierbij wel van de onderliggende ziekte of het grondlijden (Bron: CBS).
